So when I recently embarked on one of my redevelopment projects I selected a Gardenia contract matt for the walls and white contract matt for the ceilings. Naturally all the surfaces where correctly prepared ready for the paint. The first impressions was that the paint was a little too thick, which often lends to a more textured finish unless a short pile roller is used. The coverage was really nice, with two coats the old colours were completely obliterated.
Then I noticed that over the caulked joints to the ceiling and vertical wall joints there was tiny cracks, my initial thoughts that the paint was too brittle due to the lack of vinyl were later confirmed by Dulux technical support. Their advice was to use and intermediate coat over the caulk, which I'd rather not do. I'd prefer to use two coats of the vinyl based emulsion.
So overall a nice but I'll stick to either ceilings or mist coats. If the paint is cracking over caulk I can see it cracking over anything like old paper paste, silk finish, grease, eggshell; which I know should be removed or properly prepared but sometime things do get missed.
